| My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend at the Empress. We visited the Bengal Lounge ( twice ) the food and drink -outstanding. We enjoyed the historic High Tea with wonderful service and food. We also had dinner in the main dining room where the service and food were again excellent.
Location of the hotel is central to visiting a variety of sites in Victoria. We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Natural History Museum just across the street from the hotel. We saw an outstanding exhibit on Natural photograph and heard a very informative lecture on "Life Among the Birds" and saw an IMAX presentation called "Adventure in Africa".
We had only one minor disappointment and that had to do with the thinness of the walls and the noise early in the morning of "neighbors" showering!!
We certainly intend on returning soon and hope to bring our grandsons back to the Empress for BC "adventure" !! |

| We were very impressed with the Fairmont Empress - the price we paid was absolutely value for money and we were surprised at how little it actually cost to stay in such a prestigious hotel. The ambience and efficiency of the staff was great. We had the experience of High Tea and you really felt like royalty. The rooms were beautifully appointed and a very comfortable bed. I loved the rose fragrance toiletries and the bath gown although I think there really should be two of those in a room for a double. The location was very central and we could walk to everything and the bus stop for the Pacific Coach Line was a 5 min walk so you don't need a taxi if you go to Victoria by bus and stay here. It was our little bit of extravagance that was cheaper than staying in big name hotels in Australia though. Absolute luxury and we had a view over the harbour which I didn't think we would get for the price. Loved it and will go back there if we ever travel to Victoria again. |

| Sounds fancy, slow registration one girl working for a large line up, was very clean but for the price and all the rave could have found alot nicer for alot cheaper!!!!! Was dated! Major! I understand it's old and refurbished but the shower sounded like an airplane was landing on the roof was scared to use it! Never ever heard a sound like that before and they also do not have parking area for overheight vehicles I believe we paid 29 or 34$ parking fee there and the vehicle had to be parked 4 blocks away outside of Victorias bar scene ( not ok when u drive a 50,000 dollar vehicle!) so all in all pretty dissappointed wouldn't recommend nor stay again! |

| Over the holidays, we were lucky enough to secure a well-priced booking, mid-week, at the beautiful Empress Hotel. On the plus side of the ledger, the hotel retains spectacular beauty and grandeur, particularly in its common areas, such as the Empress Room (main restaurant) and the Bengal Lounge. Most of the staff one runs into casually are exceedingly polite and deferential. One the negative side, either there is a shortage of good maintenance staff, or there is a bad feeling between staff and management. We stayed 2 nights. This is the only time I have stayed in any hotel, where there was no service at all during the stay (ie: no bed made, no towels, soaps, or coffee left). I did track down the maid, and she let me know that she felt very over-worked. (when we went to leave our room, my husband found traces of a previous stay beneath the bed, so this must be chronic.) Also, we had a good giggle over an appetizer we shared in the main dining room. (Predictably expensive, overall, but good food.) We thought we would share an order of scallops. ($$$). The waiter whispered discreetly to my husband that the 4 scallops we could expect might not be enough...did we want 2 of those? When our scallops came, there were just 3 very small scallops on the plate....when I inquired politely after the 4th, I was told that these were extra large...hence 3!! And not to be too picky, but really, to charge an extra $15 to use WIFI? Come on....does this mean that I am just not classy enough for the Empress? Or is this just another example of the "Empresses New Clothes"? |

| Great place for an intimate getaway, while exploring pedestrian friendly Victoria , its inner harbour, and Legislature .
Ambiance like nowhere else. Great facilities,
Lunch in the Bengal Room a most memorable event.
Even have High Tea if you fancy it.
Our view onto the harbour was the best! |

| I love old hotels, and this one fits that bill big time, wished we could have stayed in the old old part but its all old. The beds are very comfy! i think $30 for parking in the hotel when you are staying there is outrageous but we were able to leave the car there till 4 the day we checked out. Room was spacious and clean. The room has robes and coffee and tea and a fridge. The dining in the hotel isnt much to speak of, expensive and limited, but the location of the hotel makes it such that you can walk anywhere and eat any kind of food.
Over all a very good experience. |
